Packaging

The large (1:40 scale) Boston Museum of Science [Battat] figures came packaged in several different ways. One might be found -
(1) In a plastic bag, with an info tag tie-wrapped to the figure. (See Pachycephalosaurus in his factory bag, above. The lettering on the bag is nothing interesting, just the usual admonishment to keep your kid's head out of it .... have to be a mighty small kid to be in any danger, as that bag is only about five inches square)
(2) Loose (no box or bag), with the info tag and tie-wrap. This is the way they were stashed in bins at the Boston Museum of Science. (See Amargasaurus, above)
(3) Individually boxed - no info tag, though - the biographical information was printed on the back of the box, which had an admonishment to "retain .... for future reference." (The Carnotaurus box with Carnotaurus captured in situ is above. Reverse sides of boxes for Carnotaurus and Utahraptor are below.)

I never noticed any pattern as to which 1:40 figures might be found bagged, or boxed, or naked except for their info tags.

The Mini Dino Collections were, I believe, always boxed in the same two groups of five, although the boxes weren't actually labeled Collection 1 or Collection 2 (I assigned those numbers in the table on Page 1 for my own convenience). The mini T. rex was packaged by himself, but I've yet to see one in the package (or, for that matter, not in the package). Below are front and back views of a boxed set. These mini figures didn't have individual info tags.

Info Tags

Below are some sample info tags. These were folded in quarters and tie-wrapped to the figures.

First is an early tag, typical of those printed through about 1997. It is bilingual, English and French. The group photo on the reverse side shows the twelve figures of the 1994 and 1996 series, and the text notes that there are twelve figures in the complete set. The tag copyright date is 1994. However half the figures shown didn't appear on the market until two years later. Either the tag was modified without renewing the copyright, or the dinos in the photograph were prototypes or pre-production samples.

Next is a later tag, from 1998 or later. The Gallic stuff has been dropped. There are other trivial differences - notifications that the tag contains recycled material, for instance. However, the flip or reverse sides are interesting. Note that the photo of the complete set is the same as that on the earlier tag above - it includes the 1994 and 1996 figures (and the original 1994 versions of T. rex and Dilophosaurus, not the 1996 "snowshoe" versions). But the text has been updated to say that there are 18 figures in the set. Note also that in the group photo, both T. rex and Dilophosaurus are propped up against a log, thus disguising the fact that they wouldn't stand. However, the photographer somehow managed to get Utahraptor to stand by himself, something I've been able to do only on rare occasions.

The third example shows the tag accompanying the third (1998) version of T. rex. The tag is evidently new, not just a reprint of the original (ca. 1994) tag, as it is not bilingual, and rex seems to have the 1998 tail with the bent-down tip. But the rex pictured on the reverse, propped up on the log, seems to be the original 1994, as his tail looks straighter.
