The MPC Pteranodon

The Marx original is a unique vision. Someone went to some pains to think about how Pteranodon's wings would have articulated when he wasn't flying around. Unique vision or not, all was fair game for those MPC copycats. Unusually, this MPC figure is slightly larger than the Marx original. The proportions are off; the body is too long, and the neck is long enough to be borderline gangly.

The Marx mold looks to be a 3-piece one, and one hell of a piece of work it is, too. MPC went with their usual 2-piece mold. To do it as a dorsal/ventral pair the feet had to be splayed out sideways. The Marx feet are tucked underneath -

This is one of the few MPC copies which doesn't have the same text as the Marx original. The Marx figure is labeled PRETANODON and 27'WING SPREAD.

The MPC Smilodon

It looks like both the Marx and MPC figures were made in 3-piece molds. As usual, Marx made a better job of it (although neither did a really good job on the fangs, even though they're Smilodon's most memorable feature). The MPC figure is slightly shorter all around, and much skinnier.

The MPC Stegosaurus

Marx and MPC both used 2-piece molds for Stegosaurus. The MPC figure is substantially smaller and much thinner than the Marx original.

I know of two different molds for the MPC Stegosaurus. The figures from the two molds are identical except for very tiny difference in the positioning of the markings. Also, one is marked 18 on the outside of the left foreleg, the other is marked 8.

Markings - 20 LONG (left side of tail), STEGOSAURUS (right side of tail), 18 or 8 (outside of left foreleg)
