The Marx "Revised" Mold Group courtesy of Mold # PL977

Allosaurus (b) • Ankylosaurus (b) • Trachodon (b) • Dimetrodon (c) • Brontosaurus (b)
Triceratops (b) • Tyrannosaurus (b)Stegosaurus (b)

These eight figures are from the original production period, sometime between 1961 and 1964. They are all in the standard Marx colors for midrange original production, gray, light green, or brown. (The Trachodon specimen above has been painted, and not by the factory, either.)

These figures replaced the three figures of the "large" mold group - Tyrannosaurus (a), Brontosaurus (a), and Kronosaurus. The "large" mold was then retired and its three figures went out of production. Tyrannosaurus (b) is a radically different figure from Tyrannosaurus (a). For a discussion of the particulars, go here. Brontosaurus (a) and Brontosaurus (b) are nearly identical - see here.

Four "revised" figures - Allosaurus (b), Trachodon (b), Stegosaurus (b), and Ankylosaurus (b) - are minor modifications of the figures in the "medium" mold group. For details of the modifications, see Allosaurus, Trachodon, Stegosaurus, or Ankylosaurus. The "revised" Triceratops (b) is a minor modification of Triceratops (a), from the "small" mold group.

Dimetrodon (c) isn't a revision or modification of the two Dimetrodon of the "small" mold group. It's just another Dimetrodon, essentially identical to the other two. Dimetrodon (a), (b), and (c) can be distinguished (even though there's little reason to do so) - see here.

The "medium" and "small" mold group figures stayed in production even after the "revised" group was introduced. So after 1961, two very slightly different versions of Allosaurus, Trachodon, Stegosaurus, Ankylosaurus, and Triceratops were in production, as well as two near-identical moldings of Plateosaurus, and three essentially identical moldings of Dimetrodon.

The figures of the "revised" mold group were reissued in the early 1970s. The plastic is slightly different from that of the original issues, and the colors - light gray, light green, or reddish-brown - were different. The reissue figures are otherwise identical (well, more or less) to the originals. Here is a reissue set -
